About CFRE
The Canadian Foundation for Refugee Education (CFRE) is a refugee-led, research-informed foundation dedicated to strengthening the field of refugee education in Canada.
CFRE was established in response to a real and persistent structural gap. Refugee education in Canada is shaped by the efforts of many serious and committed actors, including schools, universities, settlement agencies, researchers, community organizations, and sponsorship networks. Yet this work is often dispersed across institutions whose primary mandates lie elsewhere. The result is a field that is active and important, but not yet sufficiently consolidated, coordinated, or supported by durable institutional architecture.
CFRE exists to help address that gap.
We are building an institution that contributes to refugee education not as a temporary concern or peripheral issue, but as a field requiring serious thought, careful research, public engagement, and long-term institutional support. Our work is grounded in analytical discipline, responsible partnership, and a commitment to building structures that can serve both present needs and future development.
What We Do
CFRE works at the level of research, analysis, publishing, and institutional development. Our work includes:
-
research development and systems mapping;
-
institutional and policy analysis;
-
knowledge synthesis and field-building;
-
dialogue across academic, community, and public settings;
-
publishing and public-facing intellectual work; and
-
the development of durable institutional structures that can sustain refugee education as a serious field of inquiry over time.
We aim to help make the field more legible, more connected, and better supported.
